In the picturesque setting of Dunedin’s University Oval, Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl in the third Twenty20 international against New Zealand. The hosts, leading the five-match series 2-0, secured victories in Auckland by 46 runs and in Dunedin by 21 runs. New Zealand introduced three changes to their lineup, welcoming Lockie Ferguson, Tim Seifert, and Mathew Henry, while Ben Sears, Adam Milne, and Kane Williamson were omitted from the playing eleven.

In an electrifying showdown at Dunedin’s University Oval, the third T20 between the Black Caps and Pakistan unfolded into a record-breaking spectacle, leaving cricket enthusiasts in awe. Finn Allen, the 24-year-old New Zealand opener, etched his name in history by smashing an extraordinary 137 runs off just 62 balls, setting a new benchmark for the highest individual total by a Kiwi player in a Twenty20 International. Allen’s phenomenal display, characterized by 16 sixes, not only surpassed Brendon McCullum’s previous record but also equaled the sixth-best innings in T20I history.

The cricketing history books were rewritten as Allen matched the world record for most sixes in a T20I innings, previously held by Hazratullah Zazai. His remarkable hitting spree saw him launch several shots out of the University Oval, leaving the opposition bewildered. This breathtaking performance not only secured New Zealand’s series victory but also solidified Allen’s spot in the squad for the upcoming World Cup.

Devon Conway’s early dismissal did not significantly hinder the performance of  Black Caps, as Allen dominated the proceedings, capitalizing on Haris Rauf’s wayward bowling. Rauf, who had an early success, went for 51 runs in his next two overs, with Allen collecting 47 runs in just 14 deliveries against the world’s 14th-ranked bowler. The bowlers struggled to contain Allen, who showcased his power in front of square on the leg side.

Tim Seifert, stepping in for the injured Kane Williamson, played a crucial supporting role, contributing 31 runs in a 125-run partnership with Allen. Although Allen’s innings concluded in the 17th over, the damage had been emphatically done, with New Zealand posting a formidable total.

Facing a daunting required rate, Pakistan encountered further setbacks as skipper Mitchell Santner outfoxed Mohammad Rizwan, having him caught behind in the eighth over. Despite Babar Azam’s valiant effort with 58 runs off 37 balls, only Allen’s extraordinary performance will be etched in the memories of this game. As New Zealand celebrated a convincing victory, the cricketing world marveled at Finn Allen’s record-breaking innings, setting the stage for an exciting World Cup year!
