The Punjab Board Committee of Chairmen has announced a significant change in the examination system for matriculation and intermediate students. As reported by 24NewsHD TV, a 10-point grading system will replace numerical marks, shifting the focus from mere competition to academic improvement.
Key Features of the New Grading System
- Grades and GPA Instead of Marks
Students’ performance will now be assessed using a grade-based system rather than numerical marks. - No More “Fail”
The term “Unsatisfactory” will replace “Fail” to reduce stigma and encourage students to improve their academic performance. - Higher Passing Percentage
The passing percentage will increase from 33% to 40%, raising the standard of education.
Implementation Plan

- Phase 1 (2026): Students of classes 9 and 11 will be assessed using the grading system.
- Phase 2 (2027): The system will extend to classes 10 and 12.
Board officials emphasize that this change aims to reduce the pressure of competition and help students focus on genuine learning and skill development.
