Turkey’s Skies Ablaze: A Summer of Fire and Unprecedented Heat Across Europe
An exceptionally early and severe summer heatwave is already engulfing Europe, causing massive wildfires, especially in the well-known Izmir area of Turkey.

For example, Spain reported 46°C (114°F) at Huelva, while Portugal recorded a probable record-high June temperature of 46.6°C (115.9°F). Italy has placed 21 cities under its highest “red” health alert, and in some areas, outdoor work during the hottest hours is being restricted to protect workers.
This widespread heat is impacting daily life across the continent. Tourists at famous landmarks like Wimbledon, the Colosseum in Rome, and Seville in Spain are sweltering in the heat.
