Dua Lipa is Facing a Lawsuit

Dua Lipa is caught in a musical showdown! A lawsuit is swirling around claiming that our beloved pop sensation copied her smash hit “Levitating” from a disco tune way back in 1979. Can you believe it? But hold on because a federal judge in the heart of Manhattan has ruled that this case must go on!

So, let’s spill the tea, Songwriters L. Russell Brown and Sandy Linzer are pointing fingers at Dua Lipa, saying that “Levitating” bears a bit too much resemblance to their jam “Wiggle and Giggle All Night.” They are waving the flag of “substantial similarity,” and Judge Katherine Polk Failla is all ears. The lawsuit, freshly filed in March 2022, claims that “Levitating” borrowed some “compositional elements” from “Wiggle.” Hmm, sounds like musical déjà vu!

But hush-hush, Dua and her music label Warner Records have not chimed in just yet. Lawyers for the pop star are keeping things zipped up for now. They might be practicing their vocal warm-ups for the courtroom drama.

Oh, but it is not all glitz and glamour. Our fierce songstress’s defenders are wagging their fingers, saying it’s a stretch to believe that young Dua, all of 27, was grooving to “Wiggle” before crafting “Levitating.” But wait, Judge Failla is adding a plot twist! She’s saying that the plaintiffs actually have enough evidence to argue that the songs are so “strikingly similar” – think matching dance moves – that Dua might have slipped on her disco shoes without even realizing it.

The judge’s ruling doesn’t spill the beans on the other song claim, “Don Diablo,” that’s also in the mix. Seems like it’s just another layer of this musical cake that’s yet to be sliced.

“Levitating” is no wallflower, mind you. It strutted its stuff on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a whopping 77 weeks, and it even scored the coveted crown of being the No. 1 song on Billboard’s 2021 year-end chart. Talk about making an entrance!

Oh, but the drama doesn’t end there, my dear readers. In sunny Los Angeles, another lawsuit threw shade at Dua Lipa, claiming she didn’t quite get the green light to use musician Bosko Kante’s “talk box” magic in remixes of “Levitating.” Seems like the legal harmonies just keep on coming for our chart-topping star.

So, there you have it, the scoop on Dua Lipa’s musical tangle. Stay tuned, because this case is far from a fade-out, and the courtroom spotlight is shining bright on our pop princess!
